Dear Reader,
While I have picked my wedding dress, dress shopping is certainly not over. Now it's the bridesmaids' turn!
I have a somewhat unusual bridal party. I have two Ladies of Honor: one to help me in my home state, and another to coordinate wedding activities in the Midwest, where the wedding will be. I also have the pleasure of having the fiance's two sisters standing with me. The bridal party lives in three different time zones, so we're going to need to be creative to have sustainable, happy bridesmaids.
I've created a Facebook group with all my ladies in it to discuss bridal party things. Today, I gave them three different options that we could pursue for their dresses. Let me give you a peek at that discussion; I can't wait to see what we choose!

Ok ladies, let's talk dresses!
We’ve got a tricky situation here, and I need your help because we’re going to do things a little differently than usual. The fiance and I are doing our best to have a sustainable wedding, and the traditional idea of an expensive dress that you only wear once isn’t good for the environment or anyone’s wallet.
So, here are my goals for your dresses:
I realize that this is ultimately my choice as the bride, but I don’t want to dictate exactly what you wear. I want you to feel beautiful and have a dress that you’ll enjoy in the future, too. With those goals in mind, I’ve come up with some options.

- A dress that you can wear again.
- A dress that you like enough to wear again.
- A dress that is affordable.
- A dress that looks nice with the other ladies’ dresses.
I realize that this is ultimately my choice as the bride, but I don’t want to dictate exactly what you wear. I want you to feel beautiful and have a dress that you’ll enjoy in the future, too. With those goals in mind, I’ve come up with some options.
- Purple: Since purple is a favorite color for at least two of you, we choose one purple color from David’s Bridal and everyone picks her favorite dress in that color from David’s Bridal. (Why David's Bridal? They're everywhere, have a good range of styles and prices, and the color will be exactly the same.)
- Black: Every lady should have a nice black dress! Everyone wears her favorite black dress, and we can spruce up with colored sashes or accessories if desired. This is my favorite option, since it requires the least coordination and results in a dress you’re guaranteed to be able to wear again.
- Coordinated-Length Jewel Tone: I work with you to pick your favorite jewel tone, and everyone buys a dress in her unique color. In this case, I would need to see your dresses before you buy them, because we’ll need to coordinate lengths so there’s some unity between all the dresses. This would look very nice, but is the most work because requires the most coordination between all the dresses. However, if you’ll be happier with a jewel-tone dress and will wear it again, I am so down with this!
A note for all options: Since the wedding will be semi-formal, for long dresses, go for a sheath, column, or straighter A-line silhouette, and avoid ballgown, mermaid/trumpet, and poofier A-line silhouettes.
Please vote in the poll to let me know what your favorite option is! Also, send me a message if there is an option that would make you miserable.

So, Reader, there you have it! I feel like I may be playing with Pandora's box by opening up this discussion: it certainly would be much easier to just tell the women what they're wearing. That doesn't jive sustainably, though, so here's hoping that we find an option that makes everyone happy.
Thank you for reading.
