Dear Reader,
Good news! In my earlier posted titled Society and You, I mentioned that I had reached out to David's Bridal in hopes of clarifying if they pursued ethical supply chain practices. Well, I heard back!
I'm encouraged by the response (below); the gist of it is that they do in fact have systems in place to promote healthy, ethical workplace practices in their supply chain. I maintain some hesitation, however, since this letter doesn't confirm how successful they have actually been. I will seek verification that they've been successful from a third party, but until then I'm delighted that David's does, at least, seem have an eye on the issue.
Hello Abby,
Thank you for your inquiry with David's Bridal. One of the core values of David's Bridal is ensuring all suppliers follow the highest of ethical sourcing, manufacturing, and labor practices. David's Bridal has developed a Code of Conduct that all suppliers are required to follow which ensures that the company only does business with suppliers who engage in ethical practices. Our Code of Conduct prohibits the use of child or forced labor and discrimination in employment. It also requires that fair and lawful wages and benefits are paid and applied, health and safety standards are met, ethical standards are maintained, and environmental laws are followed. In addition, we fully adhere to the spirit and terms of California's Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 which aims to combat and eradicate all forms of human slavery and human trafficking. Pursuant to the Act, we proudly furnish the following summary to the public of our efforts in this regard:
All suppliers, both domestic and foreign, are required to sign the David's Bridal Code of Conduct to certify compliance with its provisions.
We require all suppliers to maintain internal accountability standards and procedures, to demonstrate compliance with David's Bridals' Code of Conduct. Any supplier who cannot provide proof of compliance when asked, or are found to be in violation of the Code of Conduct, are required to take corrective action or face termination of supplier's relationship with David's Bridal.
We conduct selected, unannounced foreign supplier audits to evaluate their compliance with David's Bridal's Code of Conduct, including human trafficking and slavery. The audits are conducted by independent third party inspectors of all foreign suppliers to assess risks of human trafficking and slavery, as well as compliance with David's Bridal's Code of Conduct. Company employees and management who have direct responsibility for supply chain management are trained on the provisions of David's Bridal's Code of Conduct, including human trafficking and slavery, particularly with respect to mitigating risks within the supply chain of products sourced by David's Bridal.
Thank you,
